Silvester "Juan" Paredes

January 31, 1974 - October 3, 2021

Juan Silvester Paredes, better known as Silvester or Sly, parted with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2021, after battling pancreatic cancer since 2018. Silvester was born January 31, 1974, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He worked 20 years as a bus driver for the MTA, spent over 10 years teaching at the Bronx Bible Institute of the Assemblies of God, and pastored Bethany Christian Church in Manhattan for 6 years. A phenomenal husband, father, son, brother, uncle, pastor, teacher, leader, counselor, mentor and so much more, Silvester had a passion for the Word of God and ministry. He spent many years working in the Royal Rangers ministry and teaching Sunday School. He enjoyed fishing, chess, and playing video games with his family. Silvester is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carmen Yulissa Paredes, his three daughters: Melissa Paredes, Yudelis Najera, and Yulie Paredes, son-in-law Nicholas Najera, and furry granddaughter Stella. He is also survived by his parents Juan Tomas Paredes-Valdez and Minerva Paredes; his siblings Marisol Rodriguez, Juan Tomas Paredes, Robinson Paredes, Johanna Arias, Juan Miguel Paredes, Reagan Paredes, Sonia Rivera, along with their spouses and children. His legacy will live on through all of his loved ones, his congregation, and the community that cherished him dearly. . Juan Silvester Paredes, más conocido como Silvestre o Sly, fue a morar con el Señor el domingo 3 de octubre de 2021 luego de luchar contra el cáncer de páncreas desde 2018. Silvestre nació el 31 de enero de 1974 en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. Trabajó 20 años como conductor de autobús para la MTA, pasó más de 10 años enseñando en el Instituto Bíblico de las Asambleas de Dios del Bronx y fue pastor de la Iglesia Cristiana Bethany en Manhattan durante 6 años. Fue un esposo, padre, hijo, hermano, tío, pastor, maestro, líder, consejero, mentor fenomenal y mucho más. Silvestre tenía pasión por la Palabra de Dios y el ministerio. Pasó muchos años trabajando en el ministerio de los Royal Rangers y enseñando en la Escuela Dominical. Disfrutaba de la pesca, el ajedrez y los videojuegos con su familia. A Silvestre le sobreviven su esposa de 29 años, Carmen Yulissa Paredes, sus tres hijas: Melissa Paredes, Yudelis Najera y Yulie Paredes, su yerno Nicholas Najera y su nieta peluda Stella. También le sobreviven sus padres Juan Tomás Paredes-Valdez y Minerva Paredes; sus hermanos Marisol Rodríguez, Juan Tomás Paredes, Robinson Paredes, Johanna Arias, Juan Miguel Paredes, Reagan Paredes, Sonia Rivera, junto a sus cónyuges e hijos. Su legado vivirá a través de todos sus seres queridos, su congregación y la comunidad que lo apreciaba tanto.
