Bertha Rose Eggleton passed from this life on April 14, 2016. She was 89 years old. Born December 16, 1926 in Broad Brook, Conn, Bertha was one of the eldest of the 8 children of the late Joseph and Anna Morris Yanusaitus. Orphaned at a young age, the family was forced to separate. Bertha moved to the Sussex County New Jersey area where she lived with foster families, some of which she remained close to for many years. It was while living there that she would meet her future husband. Bertha and her sweetheart, the late William L. Eggleton Sr. were engaged during the war years, marrying in the summer of 1945. After Bills’ discharge from military service they moved to Middletown, NY. This would be where they would settle, start their family and live out their lives. Bertha was predeceased by her loving husband the late William L. Eggleton to whom she was married for 58 years. She was also predeceased by her son William L. Eggleton Jr. She was also predeceased by her brothers John Yanusaitus of New Jersey, Anthony Yanusaitus of Florida, Joseph of Florida, William of Calif, and her sister Anne Yanusaitus- Emmons of New Jersey, Bertha’s life was one of quiet contentment and subtle determination. She enjoyed the simplicity of being a dedicated homemaker. Her immaculate home and surrounding yard with its beautiful flowers and ornamental trees gave her many hours of enjoyment. She could always be found in her backyard, reading a good book, bird-watching or merely gazing up to contemplate the drifting clouds and passing jets on a summer’s day and then to watch the stars come out in the evening. In her last months, she was a resident of the Promenade in Middletown. Her room had access to its park-like inner courtyard where she could continue to enjoy the outdoors that she loved so much. She has 2 surviving children; Roberta L. Schwab and her husband Alfred G. Schwab of Middletown, NY. Haila Eggleton-MacKay and her husband David M. High of Southport, N C. She has 1 daughter-in-law, Colleen Eggleton of Otisville, NY. She has 1 grandson, Alfred G. Schwab and his wife, Justine Schwab of Middletown, NY and 2 great-grandchildren, Parker and Addison Schwab. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Howell of NY and brother, Albert Yanusaitus of Tenn. And several nieces and nephews. A special, heartfelt “Thank You”, to Middletown Park Rehabilitation facility. To the staff of unit 1, the therapists and other caregivers there that showed genuine loving concern for Mom during her stays there. Their care and compassion is deeply appreciated.
